A crown can be done for appearance. We tend to be conservative in the front. I don’t like doing full crowns in the front unless I just have to. But the appearance, we will take out mercury fillings in a safe manner. And we use isolation with suction devices to be safe. And we will restore that with inlay, onlay, or a crown. It will have the look of enamel and the strength of enamel.
A crown also holds your tooth together against forces. If it has a large filling or a filling through the circle of the tooth, that weakens the tooth. If it’s a small one and some teeth an inlay is your strongest or an onlay without removing a lot of tooth structure to a full crown if it’s a lot bigger or you’ve had a root canal.
Also, a crown or a full onlay can cover and give you height. We use the material that’s right for where it’s going to be and that’ll look the best, last the longest, and be the best for that tooth. You know, if you’ve wore your teeth off we can replace it with enamel. In the front, if you’ve wore a lot it’d be more of, like, a double veneer with a crown. It goes down the inside and the outside. The tooth doesn’t have to be cut down as much. And it’ll give you your height of your teeth back so you can smile naturally and have a beautiful smile.
We’ve been doing the CEREC since 2001. This is my sixth machine I think, and we can do same-day dentistry with that. I use the CEREC every week and sometimes every day. We also use digital scanners to scan. Sometimes we have to do traditional but probably 75%, 80% even when we’re doing full mouth is all done digital now without the goopy impression material. And a fair amount of our implant cases are done with digital.

Reveal Healthy Teeth Thanks to a Dental Crown or Bridge
When you visit our practice, you not only benefit from Dr. William E. Hay’s experience, but our use of advanced technology as well. For example, you can receive your dental crown in one visit. We can make it in our office with our CEREC machine. There’s no need to wear a temporary crown while you wait for an outside lab or return later for placement. If any quality issues need to be addressed, your dentist can do it right away in our office instead of sending the crown back to a lab. We also use digital X-rays, digital scanners, and intraoral cameras for the most precise results.
You’ll find a restoration to suit your needs:
- Dental Crown – We use high-quality materials to create your crown. This procedure is often done to repair teeth damaged by injury or to repair a tooth with a large cavity. While we have options that will make your new tooth look natural, Dr. Hay can use gold material if you’d prefer. When paired with a dental implant, a crown can replace a single missing tooth.
- Dental Bridge – If you are missing one tooth or several teeth in a row, you may need a dental bridge. The bridge anchors to nearby teeth. You can also get yours anchored to implants if you want a more lifelike replacement.
We never want anxiety or stress to get in the way of necessary treatments. Our team will make sure you feel completely at ease before we begin. Dr. Hay will numb your mouth with a local anesthetic so you don’t feel a thing, using a method that minimizes the sting. For more extreme anxiety, an anesthesiologist can administer deep sedation if you’d like.

Dental crowns and bridges are a fantastic investment in your smile. Most of our patients can expect their new crown or bridge to last at least five to seven years after placement. However, these restorations can last a lot longer, especially if you take care not to chew hard, gummy, or sticky foods.
Your cost for crowns and bridges can vary widely, depending on your needs and treatment plan. Placing a single crown is less expensive than filling in a smile gap with a bridge consisting of several replacement teeth. Our team will be happy to cover all the details in full during a consultation and answer any questions you have about your treatment.
Dental crowns and bridges can be used in a wide variety of ways to restore damaged and missing teeth. We can use a single crown for repairing a tooth. With a dental implant, a crown can replace a missing tooth. A bridge is designed to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to either your other teeth or dental implants.
